Departure from Antananarivo, in the direction of the airport,
then heading for Merimandroso (25 km to the west of Antananarivo).

Ascent up the hill of Ambohimasina to discover its historic
remains and its “doany”, a sacred place. Lunch
and relaxation time with traditional songs and dances
performed by village residents. Heading for Ambatoharanana:
visit to the first ever Anglican Church built in 1878
and to the theological school museum. Back to Antananarivo
along the road of Lazaina from which there is a fine view
of Antananarivo, of its typical villages and of its sacred
hills, namely Ambohimanga.
Imerinkasinina
et Ankadimanga : out of history into stories
Departure from Antananarivo in the direction of Imerikasinina
located 15 km to the east of Antananarivo. A stop at
Ambohimanambola to visit a wrought iron work. Arrival
in Imerinkasinina, a tour round this typical village.
Its stairways made of stone, its traditional houses
and its numerous remains are visited while an account
of the history of each of them is given filled up with
a set of anecdotes. What’s more, there is a fine
view of Antananarivo from there.
Joining National Road N° 2, the trip proceeds to
Ankadimanga. This hill, located 45 km to the east of
Antananarivo, was once the scene of a romance between
Andrianampoinimerina the great monarch, and Ramiangaly
his twelfth wife. On arriving, typical lunch of the
Central Regions on the shore of the lake of Ramiangaly,
livened by the village residents.
A tour round the village: shutters made from stone,
the tomb of Queen Ramiangaly, museum of rice. Back to
Antananarivo.
Mahabo,
where authenticity is read as simplicity
Departure from Antananarivo in the direction of Mahabo
on the National Road N° 4. Arrival in the site of
Milasoa (45 km). Ascent up the hill of Lohavohitra on
the top of which some archaeological excavations resulted
in the finding of objects dating back to the xvth century.
Back to Mahabo and a stop at Andranovelona; a tour round
this typical village: traditional houses, orchards, vegetable
gardens, silk worm breeding farm. Lunch. Rambling to the
first ever site exploited by the “Institut Malgache
de Recherches Appliquées” (Malagasy Institute
of Applied Researches) on account of its medicinal plants.
Back to Mahabo, with a stop for a fine view over the surrounding
villages. Back to Antananarivo.
Ankadinandriana,
in the realm of colours
Departure from Antananarivo in the direction of Ankadinandriana,
30km to the south-east of Antananarivo, with a stop at
Ambohimanambola to visit a wrought iron work. The trip
will proceed toward Ankadinandriana along a road that
stretches across pretty fields of flowers. Visit to the
local market place. Ramble to Ambohijato, a typical village
which has preserved numerous remains: ditch, one piece
old shutter, traditional houses…. Birth village
of Rakoto Frah, an internationally well known flutist;
from Ambohijato there is an unforgettable fine view, especially
over a spot pointed out as the centre of Madagascar in
the days of colonization. Back to Ankadinandriana and
a tour round this village. Lunch. Relaxation near a beautiful
water fall before proceeding to the next trip. A stop
at the village of Soamonina on the way back: a small hamlet
that used to be a small kingdom of a princess; a nice
view over the surrounding villages. Back to Antananarivo
in the late afternoon.
